La Seca, September 2, 2020.- Immersed in the middle of the 2020 harvest campaign, the Bodega Cuatro Rayas cooperative from Valladolid collects -as well as the fruit of the vineyards of its partners- awards for several of its elaborations. The ‘China Wine & Spirits Awards’ have recognized the intercooperative project of Cuatro Rayas in the DO Ribera del Duero by awarding gold medals to the two tempranillos that the winery has in collaboration with coastal cooperativists and under selection of the technical director and Winemaker at Cuatro Rayas Elena Martín Oyagüe.
For its part, the prestigious ‘Mundus Vini’ oenological contest, held in Germany, has awarded a gold to Verdejo ‘Cuatro Rayas Viñedos Centenarios’ in its summer tasting round, a recognition that adds to the hundred already harvested by one of the Verdejos with the greatest projection in the market.
Four Stripes Ribera del Duero
The tempranillo used in the production of ‘Cuatro Rayas Ribera del Duero’ is harvested manually in vineyards that are at least 30 years old. Fermented and macerated with temperature control in a stainless steel tank, it then undergoes a four-month aging period in French and American oak barrels. In visual phase, this red is intense cherry red, with a medium layer and garnet rims and its nose is complex and balanced, with aromas of ripe black fruit, berries, roasted, vanilla and spicy spices. Its passage through the mouth is velvety, smooth and persistent.
Forty Harvest Ribera del Duero
This DO Ribera special selection of the oenologist Elena Martín Oyagüe is made from tempranillo from old vines that are at least forty years old. After aging in barrels for 10 months, ‘Cuarenta Vendimias Ribera’ presents an intense cherry red with purple reflections. Intense and clean on the nose, notes of licorice and ripe black fruits are appreciated on a spicy background and hints of mocha and roasted notes. In the mouth it is powerful, complex and structured with sweet tannins and reminiscences of black forest fruits and a long aftertaste.
Cuatro Rayas Centennial Vineyards
Verdejo vines between 80 and 100 years old and grown in glass are the origin of this DO Rueda varietal. The grapes are harvested by hand during the day and fermented at 15ºC with selected yeasts: 15% do so in 500-liter French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel tanks to later be aged on their lees with battonâge for 5 months. Pale yellow in color with greenish reflections, it is bright and transparent to the eye. Floral notes stand out on the nose, on a background of ripe fruit and aniseed typical of the variety. In the mouth it is round and unctuous, fatty and enveloping, with great persistence.
