The summer edition of the ‘Berliner Wine Trophy’ awards a Gold medal to ’61’ Dorado en Rama, Amador Diez 2015 and Amador Diez 2017 and with a silver medal to Forty Harvests Cuvée 2018, highlighting the excellence of premium wines from the Valladolid winery.
La Seca, September 22, 2020.- The 24th edition of the renowned German contest ‘Berliner Wine Trophy’ – in which they have participated more than 6,000 wines from around the world – has awarded three Gold and one Silver medals to the most exclusive elaborations of the Cuatro Rayas cooperative winery, based in La Seca, Valladolid. These awards –’61’Dorado en Rama, Amador Diez 2015, Amador Diez 2017 (Gold) and Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée 2018 (Silver) – demonstrate once again the quality of the winery’s most special wines, which are produced from selected and artisanal way and summarize the essence of the winemaking tradition of the Valladolid cooperative in the DO Rueda.
The news of these recognitions comes just a few days after the Gold medal obtained by Amador Diez 2015 in the Brussels World Contest, the only DO Rueda wine to achieve this recognition in its last edition, and joins the already long list of prizes harvested for these collection wines.
’61’ Dorado en Rama, safeguarding the Palomino in the DO Rueda
The generous premium of Bodega Cuatro Rayas is vinified by combining Verdejo grape with Palomino Fino in equal parts, a grape condemned to disappear – since its plantation is banned – but of which the La Seca cooperative cares for centuries-old vines with the aim of continuing the original elaborations of the area. This dorado is aged using the traditional soleras system and passes from the boot to the bottle without clarifying or filtering in a single annual bag.
’61’Dorado en Rama remains unstoppable having obtained exceptional scores in all the competitions to which it has been presented so far. It has gold medals in the Spring and Summer editions of ‘BWT’, in ‘Bacchus’ and in ‘Mundus Vini’, it reached the Grand Gold in ‘Frankfurt Wine Trophy’ and also has high scores in Parker and Peñín: 91 points according to ‘The Wine Advocate’ and 95 points in the ‘Peñín Guide 2021’.
Amador Diez, Collection Pre-phylloxera Verdejo
The most exclusive and artisanal elaboration of Bodega Cuatro Rayas – unique batch of 3,000 bottles per vintage – is produced from a selection of the 10 best hectares of the winery’s centennial pre-phylloxera vineyard – harvested by hand – and is vinified with the aim of promote its longevity, making it ideal for consumption today while maintaining great potential for aging in the bottle.
In addition to the Gold medal obtained in the ‘Summer BWT’, Amador Diez accumulates recognition with his two current vintages (2015 and 2017), which have already been awarded with Gold medals in the ‘Frankfurt International Trophy’ (both vintages), ‘Concurso Mundial de Bruxelles’ (Gold for 2015 -being the only Rueda wine to achieve this award- and Silver for 2017) and which have 93 points in the ‘Guía Peñín 2021’ (both vintages).
Forty Harvests Cuvée, a classic transgressor
This Verdejo assembles the most valuable wine heritage of the DO Rueda – grape from a selection of majuelos over forty years old located in the best areas of the appellation – with a production process that enhances the aromatic complexity and durability of Cuvée as aged wine.
Among other awards, Cuarenta Vendimias Cuvée has 92 Peñín 2020 points, a Gold medal in ‘Mundus Vini 2019’ and was awarded Best Rueda Wine 2019 in the ‘International Wine Challenge’, the Wine Oscars.
