Quim Vila: “It is difficult to go to the world of wine to spend a while”

In the fifth installment of ‘The talks on Spanish wine’, the Catalan businessman – a reference in the distribution of wine in Spain – analyzes the past, present and future of the business and highlights that “the world of wine is at its best”.

La Seca (Valladolid), March 2, 2020 . After conversations with the journalist Carlos Delgado, the sommelier Custodio Zamarra, the journalist and writer José Peñín and the oenologist Isabel Mijares in previous installments of ‘Las charlas del vino español’, the protagonist of the fifth chapter of this format -which revolves around to wine and its evolution in recent years – is one of the largest representatives of wine distribution in Spain: Quim Vila.

The Catalan businessman has been, during the last 25 years, key in the development and modernization of the distribution and sale of quality wines. Vila Viniteca is a shuttle that many wineries yearn for because, thanks to its impact and knowledge of the markets, it has managed to catapult many wines and make the producers’ work profitable. Quim Vila thus represents the model of wine distributor in the 21st century: it tackles all platforms with unquestionable leadership, has stores in Barcelona and Madrid and distributes wines from more than 250 wineries. In addition to all this, his professional agenda never lacks outreach events related to tastings, music and travel.

In this new installment of the ‘Spanish wine talks’ format together with Javier Pérez Andrés, Vila -which during the interview denotes enthusiasm and passion for wine culture- is optimistic and emphasizes that in our days we live “the best moment to the world of wine ”. “As always, there are people for whom wine is a business and is doing well, and others who are doing badly; it’s hard to go to the world of wine to hang out. It is a business that is not from today to tomorrow, it is long-term ”.
