Presents the Amador Diez 2017, the second vintage of this special pre-phylloxera Verdejo cuvée made with selected grapes from free-standing vineyards of Segovia and Valladolid; 3,000 bottles have been produced
Düsseldorf, March 18, 2019. Tasters and importers of the main wine markets have known exclusively this week in Germany the second vintage of a wine that for two years has made a place among the most prestigious high-end wines in Spain. Amador Ten 2017, a brand that bears the name of the one who was president of the winery for two decades, one of the most respected figures in the DO Rueda, is a wine already listed on the menus of large restaurants and many of the best specialized stores in the national market and also international.
It is a wine that represents a return to the origins of Rueda in constant respect for the tradition and the natural environment of the oldest vineyards of the Rueda Designation of Origin. Amador Diez is a unique wine since it is made with a very scarce raw material: a selection of the best grapes from the oldest vineyards of the Denomination, pre-phylloxera, centenarians, and that in 2017 they added a total of 10 hectares of the partners viticulturists between the province of Segovia and Valladolid. Vinified with the aim of promoting its longevity, it is ideal for consumption today and with great potential for aging in the bottle, a quality highly appreciated by importers since it favors future consumption.
This new vintage will coexist in the market with that of 2015, of an equally limited production and whose sales have been carried out by quota given the reduced number of bottles available. The winemaker Roberto L. Tello, who together with Elena M. Oyagüe has continued the legacy of Ángel Calleja, Cuatro Rayas’ winemaker for four decades, was in charge of presenting importers of premium products from all over the world, who made a tasting of both vintages.
This Verdejo cuvée has been batone on its lees for eight months in new 500-liter French oak barrels. “It has a straw yellow color. On the nose varietal aromas predominate, highlighting white fruit, citrus and aniseed. Its aging in the barrel provides delicate sweet aromas such as coconut, vanilla and other more complex ones such as licorice stick. The mouth is very fresh, fat and intense leaving varietal memories “explained L. Tello in Dusseldorf. The 2015 vintage, of which he pointed out, still has a long aging potential, has evolved very positively since its presentation 24 months ago. “It has a pale golden tone and a complex nose where varietal aromas appear, of compote white fruit and honeyed, in perfect harmony with aromas of toffee and dried fruits, contributed during its stay in the barrel. On the palate it continues to stand out for its freshness and unctuousness. It is very long, leaving intense varietal and nutty memories “, he asserted.
